We all know that young kids do stupid things, and although his falls outside of what most people would expect teens to do, if he had shown one iota of remorse or otherwise sounded like a reformed man, this backlash probably wouldn't have happened.
No one is saying everyone who runs for political office has to be perfect. That would (obvs) be impossible. But what 50% of the population do expect, and are entitled to, is acknowledgment of the damage done and a commitment to support us in the future. Not to be told how and when to "get over it" or "move on".
