They're both at fault here for different reasons. When you partner up with someone who has children with someone else, you should really make it clear if you're not willing to step in on the parenting front. It sounds like no conversations had happened around that.

And he's totally in the wrong for pulling that stunt on her. First of all, for assuming she'd miss work to babysit, and second for then trying to trap her into doing it.
