The problem is, in trying to persuade everyone to respect each other, not violate each other etc etc, you have to point out where it's happening.

You can't solve a problem until you identify it, and with (for example) violence against women, it is going to come out as gendered.

I quite often see, in threads about domestic violence or violence against women, men trying to derail the discussion with "We should all treat each other the same", which implies that the patterns and incidences of violence are equal.
