Obviously the ex-wife is fully within her right to keep the inheritance and I doubt a girlfriend of two years would have much success in a legal challenge.

The question is really, what should the ex-wife do? We don't know the total sum of the inheritance, but what we do know is that the deceased made the latest will while he was with the GF. He clearly decided that he didn't want her to get more than $10k and that his estate should go to support the woman to whom he was married for so long.

She might not think she needs the money at the moment, but he obviously wanted to make sure she would be okay should she not be able to work etc etc.
