I’ve just written something highlighting similar problems. It’s not that I can’t discuss political issues with people of a different political bent, I just can’t accept their support for such a morally bankrupt person when they can’t even tell me why they’re ok with his behavior.
Saying “but her e-mails..”, or “look what her husband did..” simply isn’t good enough. If you can tell me why it’s ok to support someone who bragged and joked about grabbing women’s genitals, I’ll listen (probably with my jaw on the floor), but calling me a Libtard as your response just doesn’t cut it.
