I would definitely thoroughly research the relevant laws in Michigan on this. Self-defense, Stand your Ground etc.

There's a reason this stuff gets to court - it's not always black and white (if you'll excuse the pun). If where you live is so racist, a trial is hardly going to be biased in your favor.
