I suppose you could have pretended to take a call then move to another table but that's a pain. Or - if you'd been able to pull it off - pretend to take a call while reminaing in your seat, and just say the occasional "Ooh" and "Oh no" every few minutes to the caller. ( I have a few people that barely allow me to get a word in so it's not too fake.)
