I know it's hard to predict all the viscous and crazy responses you'll get to things you write or say, but it definitely helps if you can try and then prepare some 'come backs'.

Eg.

"It's not a compliment if it makes me feel bad".

"It's not a compliment if it's unwelcome."

"I'm telling you how it made me feel and you're trying to deny that?"

"Your response to me saying how I felt is to insult me?"

"I don't owe you an explanation for how I feel."

"I don't need complete strangers to validate me by telling me they like how I look."

"There's nothing childish about standing up to sexist creeps."

Most of the time I just ignore them though. I don't owe them an explanation.
