Great piece.

I think we need to see these as almost two separate issues (even tho' one begets the other).

Yes there is a problem with how we bring up men, and there are a lot of good guys out there trying to address this and give boys & men the support and education they need. We also need to encourage more men to step up instead of standing by, when they see friends & colleagues being a**holes.

At the same time, we need to continue to support women and keep them safe, not by selling rape alarms or phone apps. but by making them feel comfortable in calling out sexist and dangerous behaviour, and by making sure that offenders face appropriate consequences, whether for verbal or physical abuse.

It's not an either or, but the two issues definitely need to be tackled individually. As you say, one (ending male violence) won't be a by-product of the other (addressing women's safety.)
