Great article. I could talk for ages in response, but I'll just make one point.

"When a man is asked to speak to his own strengths, we sit back and absorb what he is saying, and - as long as he does not present himself as arrogant, - we typically trust that he knows what he is talking about. "

I would submit that even when men are insufferably arrogant, we rarely doubt what they say. We may dislike them for it (although that bar is very low compared to arrogant-seeming women), but it doesn't impact their work or their careers much. And if they really are very good at their jobs, they are allowed to get away with appalling behaviour (eg. bullying & harassment).
