It's important to remember that women are trying to make a system work that was never designed for us in the first place. Therefore - we need to change the actual structure and the processes in place. It's going to take time, and it will include lots of baby steps, like
- not wearing the towering heels. (They can't make you.)
- asking for more than you think you might get
- keeping track of your achievements (and then trotting them all out at your appraisal meeting)
- asking for goals and guidance (so that you can show that you've met them all at your appraisal meeting)
And I've written a whole book on how to respond to sexism for those times when you're just too shell-shocked to say anything.
Baby steps, but we'll get there.
