As a dual US and UK citizen I have a few thoughts.
1. You've stated you're in a little town in America and not on the ground here. If you were you'd know that stores regularly have empty shelves right before they restock, as they do in a lot of countries, and many do place "holders" to avoid a scruffier look. You are quoting one person taking one photo in one Tesco, even though yes, the media blew it up. There was actually a photo of a Target that went viral recently in which the poster tried to claim that US shelves were empty. Unfortunately, a dolly full of merchandise hadn't been cropped out of the photo and it was clear the shelves were being re-merched for Xmas.
2. I shop in person and haven't come across the empty shelves of which you speak, and neither has anyone I know. Occasionally something will run out - especially when the media shrieks about a scarcity - but making it sound like the old USSR is not just ridiculous but incorrect.
Do I think Brexit is a shitshow? yes. Do I think there needs to be a massive amount of money pumped into the NHS? Yes.
However, there are many, many examples of the USA being likened to a 3rd world country, so throwing that one around doesn't give much credence to your post.
